What Are the Prospects of Maritime Transport In 2021
Introduction: - The year 2020, brought a mixed bag for maritime transport. Aftereffects of corona pandemic send a shockwave to all the sectors including maritime. But this sector has now turned the table with the help of so many innovative ways. UNCTAD a dedicated body of the United Nations has predicted that the year 2021 will be good for the overall sector and growth prospects will return. Ship supply companies that struggled in 2020 will get back to good business. As we have entered into a new year, here we are exploring some prospects of maritime transport in 2021.
1. Digital Transformation: -
More and more involvement in digital devices and technology has the potential
to change the overall landscape of ship supply companies. Human
resource, inventory, logistics, facility, order management, and almost all the
verticals will see more involvement of new technologies. Even hiring of Ship
crewing agents will be done through video conferencing or another virtual
model of hiring.
Administration, finance, and other departments where it
is possible to work from a remote location will see work from the home wave. As
per some industry body estimates in the year 2020, 40 percent of support staff
worked from home in maritime transport. Artificial intelligence, the internet
of things, cloud computing, and automation like advanced technology will evolve
more in 2021. Data processing will be easy due to the large implementation of
big data analytics.
2. Precaution is here to stay: -
On some front, 2021 will be just like 2020. As of date, there is no solid
advancement on vaccination development. It simply means all the Ship crewing
agents still have to use precautions like maintaining hand and face hygiene
along with wearing of face mask. Countries will still follow some rules and
regulations to control the spread of corona virus. Ship supply companies
need to know the quarantine rule before leaving for a particular country. Just
in December, United Kingdom enforced a lockdown like the situation to control a
new strain of corona virus. All the stakeholders necessarily have to maintain
some distance from each other.
3. High growth prospects in some new sectors: -
Traditional mode of export and import will change. Just like 2020, more exports
and imports will happen in fields like medicine, PPE Kit, Vaccines, Sanitizers,
and other products that help in saving lives from virus infection. Countries
like China and India are already taking a lead in this development. China is
exporting PPE kit from small countries to the bigger countries. A country like
the USA is also importing PPE kit from china. This trend will continue in 2021.
4. Martine time sector will become more integrated: -
Pandemic has taught a hard lesson to all including stakeholders of the maritime
transport sector. Just like we have earned now to do a lot of things from home,
this pandemic will also push more integration in the sector. We may see some
cost-cutting by ship supply companies. Companies will be pushed to spend
more on the safety and security of the Ship crewing agent.
In 2021 will also bring some vertical growth in a sector
that is related to maritime transport. Logistics, order and supply, e-commerce,
inventory, data information, etc are some sectors that will be more integrated
into maritime transport.
Conclusions: - Last quarter of 2020 brought some joy into the sector, and that trend will continue in 2021.
